The Guardian: the Mexican became the richest person in the world


The richest person in the world is Mexican businessman Carlos Slim Elu, writes British newspaper The Guardian. The edition has counted up the cost of America Movil companies group, controlled by Slim. It was found out, that due to a rise in prices on the shares the businessman has overtaken Bill Gates, who within several years has held the first place among the rich men of the planet.
In the second quarter of 2007 America Movil shares have risen in price by 27 percent, while Microsoft shares – all by 5,7 percent. Besides securities quotation of Slim’s bank Inbursa have grown by 20 percent. All this has led to that that now, according to the estimation of the edition, Carlos Slim Elu has 67,8 billion dollars or approximately 8 percent of gross national product of Mexico. Bill Gates’ fortune is less - only 59,2 billion dollars.
America Movil is the dominating telecommunication company in the Latin American region. Carlos Slim Elu controls 90 percent of ground communication through company Telmex, and 80 percent of cellular communication of Mexico through company Telcel. According to the Organization on economic cooperation and development, Mexico has one of the highest tariffs for the ground communication in the world.
