The absolute record for number plates

An absolute record for a car number plate was set during the auction in Abu-Dhabi.
One of participants paid for number plates with number 5 almost 6,9 million US dollars, informs local news agency BAM.
This number plate purchased on the auction local businessman Talal Hury who, judging from his surname, does not belong to families of known Arabian princes or sheikhs and is not native for the country.
Incomes from the auction will be directed to the special fund of assistance to victims of road incidents and patients.
Number plates in United Arab Emirates can be bought in perpetual tenure. Owners can keep it when changing family cars; it is possible to hand down it, present for friends or girlfriends. Numbers can be sold both together with the car, and separately.
In Dubai number plates are sold by the police, in Abu-Dhabi – by the local company which is engaged in sale of number plates. The incomes from sales go directly to the state treasury.
Many families change their cars annually and, probably, have already surfeited. But the interest to the attractive number plates grows from year to year. Last March in Dubai the 34-years native of the country has paid more than 850 thousand US dollars for “Е15″ tags.
