Editors of the leading world automobile editions have chosen the best automobile of 2007. Model Lexus LS 460 from Japanese Toyota Concern has gained this title in luxury class sector, having overtaken nearest German contenders Audi TT and MINI Cooper.
Competition World Car of the Year is carried out since 2004. The jury includes journalists from Europe, Asia and Northern America. All members of the jury regularly participate in the test - drives. Their task was to choose the best car taking into account sales volumes for the last year.
Initially 28 automobiles competed for the prize. This January jury has made short – list of 10 models created on the common platform: Audi Q7, Audi TT, Citroen C4 Picasso, Citroen C6, Fiat Grande Punto, Jaguar XK, Lexus LS 460, Mercedes CL, Mini, and also Suzuki SX4 / Fiat Sedici.
But only three applicants have left: Japanese Lexus LS 460 and its two German competitors Audi TT and Mini. Jury preferred Lexus LS 460 as their attention was attracted by Japanese automobile advanced electronics: new automatic parking system, a unique eight-step automatic transmission and high-powered hybrid motor (as in Lexus LS600h).
WCOTY organizers declare, that they estimated all parameters of the car, everything, that matters for consumers – and also Toyota`s enthusiasm for non-polluting production methods.
Japanese models replace American and European vehicles. This is the global tendency. The sales volume of the Japanese cars in the USA has grown almost by 50 % since the beginning of the year.
