The Macallan in Lalique: 55-years whisky has become a “crystal” masterpiece


On November, 7 in London hotel The Dorchester has taken place the reception on the occasion of the limited edition of The Macallan whisky in unique hand-made decanter Lalique.

Represented this year within the framework of The Macallan in Lalique collection decanter «Natural Colour» symbolizes natural color of one-malt whisky The Macallan and is the second stage of cooperation of legendary brands. By the way, the first sample of the collection - «Exceptional Oak Casks», has been made in 2005. Its initial cost was 6 thousand dollars. In total there were 470 bottles of The Macallan in Lalique «Exceptional Oak Casks».

Creating decanter «Natural Colour» authors have used the classical design from Lalique - “Tiara”. 25 persons worked above the creation of each crystal decanter The Macallan in Lalique «Natural Colour», and about 50 % of made decanters were defective because of the microscopic cracks which have appeared after burning in the furnace.
This year, 420 created decanters will be filled with 55-years age The Macallan Sherry Oak, aging in tunes from sherry since 1949. Initial cost of a decanter will make 12 thousand dollars. Whisky has turned out dark, with notes of sweet exotic dried fruits and the wood shades passing in aromas of spices and an orange dried peel.
