The gold Koran has been sold at Christie’s at a record price
Written with gold Koran of the 13-th century became the real star of last Christie’s being sold by auction at a record sum and having become the most expensive religious Islam manuscript for all history of its existence.
The copy of the Koran which was created in 1203 and is considered by experts as the most ancient completed copy of the sacred book has been put on well-known auction Christie’s in London last Tuesday. Before the beginning of the auction owners of the book expected to get for the book about 715 thousand dollars, however the given sum has exceeded all expectations.
The unique Koran was sold for 2327300 dollars - such price has not been given earlier for the Koran or any other Islamic manuscript. The sold book is written by gold, and notes on fields are made by silver.
The book has been put up for auction by Hispanic Society of America and has passed to the person, whose name is not informed.
